A quick, straightforward and cost-effective, way to improve any under-performing project, team or department, without bureaucracy - and you can measure the results!
Enhance performance in just one day. Even when there is no obvious “problem” a Performance Improvement Workshop (PIW) is a straightforward and cost-effective way to get rid of irritating hindrances that sap morale.

No matter what the problem, when people take time to think about what they do, they almost always have ideas for improvement. What they need is someone to help “draw this out” and formalise the ideas in an action plan.

Sustained improvement comes from lots of little 5% improvements on multiple fronts. There are no big or magic fixes.

Here is how Performance Improvement Days work

  1. A Profit Improver’s facilitator meets or telephones the relevant head of team, department or unit, to arrange a date for the PIW and gets permission to write to the key 8 - 10 players with a pre-workshop exercise.
  2. The facilitator writes to each participant explaining objectives and asks him/her to email or fax to him at least six hindrances, which if dealt with, would improve performance even more. Confidentiality is assured.
  3. All the suggestions are analysed and grouped into similar categories.
  4. During the PIW the facilitator assists the participants to: a) identify the most serious hindrances to even better performance b) find solutions prepare an action plan with agreed personal tasks, deadlines and measures of success.
  5. A “wash-up” session is arranged for about six weeks after the workshop. This motivates and is an opportunity to review progress and refine actions.

RESULT?

Actions for improving performance NOW! Even better motivation, even better performance and more ideas for future improvement. A cultural change towards more pro-action, more innovation and more personal responsibility. All with minimum fuss, no jargon and virtually no bureaucracy.

ABOUT US

Bill,

We have now used your Performance Improvement Workshops three times with excellent results. On the first one we closed out 80% of all actions in six months and we've closed out 60% of actions in the other two in just three months! It was good to see people -even junior people - taking part in defining problems and then finding the solutions to them. This approach definitely works to achieve favourable and sustainable change in any team.

Mike Crawford, General Manager, ABB Automation, Marine and Turbochargers.

Dear Bill,

Thank you very much for facilitating what was a very informative Performance Improvement Day for our Business Development Team. We found 28 actions, some of them immediate, to help improve performance within our Business Development Department. Not only that, the detailed and open discussion you managed to draw out has helped prepare us to work together as an even more effective team. Once again, thank you for helping us achieve so much in just one day.

Tim Sheehan, Business Development Manager, Coflexip Stena Offshore.

Bill,

Thanks for facilitating the 2-day Performance Improvement Workshop for the Engineering and Construction Team. The results were excellent. We came away with eleven major ways forward. More importantly, we started to see one another's difficulties and the need for greater co-operation was brought home strongly. Well done on pulling together the efforts of the 24 (some very “strong-willed") participants.

John Kearney, Engineering Manager, Kvaerner Oil and Gas.

Bill,

After the two and a half day workshop we came away with 26 ideas for enhancing our internal customer service and 39 actions for enhancing team work and communication. The creativity and motivation generated was excellent. In addition, great value came from the realisation of the need for senior colleagues to be open about difficulties and to support one another. I'd be pleased to recommend the Performance Improvement Workshops to others.

Brian Young, Vice President Procurement, Kvaerner Oil and Gas.

Bill,

Thank you for facilitating the Performance Improvement Workshop for onshore management and senior offshore personnel on the Glomar Arctic 3. The value in the workshop was in identifying hindrances to performance and putting in place actions to resolve them. Your skill in getting to the heart of the problems was invaluable.

Chris Christie, Rig Manager, Glomar Arctic 3 Global marine U.K. Limited

Bill,

Your independent and thoughtful style was a great help during our one-day Performance Improvement Workshop. It's not easy bringing together very senior managers all with their strongly held views on the way forward. We came away with many actions but more importantly, we identified several serious bottlenecks to our progress: these are now being sorted.

Derek McLeod, Finance Director, Global Marine UK Limited.
